KPSC KAS 2021 Exam Pattern
KPSC KAS 2021 will be conducted in three phases: Preliminary exam, Mains exam and Interview. The applicants need to clear all the three stages in order to be selected at any of the posts. The exam pattern for Preliminary exam, Mains exam and Interview is given below:
Phase 1: Preliminary Examination
The first phase of the KPSC KAS is the Preliminary Exam. The applicants need to qualify the Preliminary Exam in order to be eligible for the Mains Exam.
- The Preliminary Exam will consist of two papers i.e. Paper I & II.
- The question papers will be carrying Objective type questions or Multiple Choice type Questions.
- The applicants are informed that the Preliminary Exam is qualifying in nature. Hence, the marks secured in this exam will not be counted for the final results.
- The medium of the question paper will be the English language.
- The duration of each of the two papers will be 2 hours.
- The exam will be carrying 200 marks.
- There will be a provision of negative marking. 0.25 marks are to be deducted for every incorrect answer.

Phase 2: Mains Examination
The second phase of the KPSC KAS is the Mains Exam. Only the applicants qualifying the Preliminary Examination will be allowed to attempt the Mains Examination. The marks secured by the applicants in the Mains Exam will be added to the final results for KPSC KAS.
- The Mains Exam will consist of descriptive type questions.
- There will be two qualifying papers in the Mains Exam.
- The duration of the Mains Exam will be 3 hours.
- The medium of the question paper is English. Although, the language papers will be set in their respective languages.
- KPSC Mains will consist of 9 papers: 2 qualifying papers, 4 general papers and 2 optional papers.

- KAS paper will be carrying a total of 1750 marks.
- Applicants qualifying the Mains Exam will be called for the Interview round.
Phase 3: Interview
The applicants qualifying the Mains will be called for the Final Interview round. Applicants must ensure their presence on the day of commencement of the interview round as the scores of Mains Exam as well as the Interview round will be considered for the final results. The applicants are informed that the questions asked in the Interview round are generally from current affairs and of national importance. The applicants must answer the questions in the interview round showing full confidence level.

Age Limit
The age limit of different Category:
One of the important eligibility criteria is the limitation of age. There are a minimum and maximum age limit for the different category for the Karnataka Public Service Commission, KAS examination. At the last date of submission of the application form, a candidate should be minimum 21 years old. For General Category, the maximum age limit should be 35 years old. However, there is relaxation for category belonging to SC/ ST, OBC.

Educational Qualification
Another important Eligibility Criteria for Karnataka Public Service Commission examination is Academic Qualification. Candidates should fulfill the minimum requirement of educational qualification for the various post of Karnataka Public Service Commission, KAS examination.
The minimum criteria for Karnataka Public Service Commission, KAS, 2020 is to qualify Bachelor degree or Master degree or its equivalent qualification from a recognized University.
Candidates who are pursuing in the last year of graduation are also eligible to appear for Karnataka Public Service Commission, KAS Preliminary exams, but for the Main exam, Candidates have to submit the proof of passing/ Completion certificate.
Nationality
Nationality is another important point for eligibility of Karnataka Public Service Commission, KAS, 2021, exams. Candidates appearing for KPPS, KAS 2021 exams must be a citizen of India. Candidates belonging outside Karnataka are also eligible to apply for KPPS, KAS 2021 exams. But they have to clear Kannada language examination. Experience
For KPSC, KAS 2021 examination, no experience is required for Group A post. But for the post of Group B, a candidate must be an active probationer in any government departments.
Eligibility criteria for Medical background Candidates
- Candidates who did not complete the internship but passed the final year examination at the time of submission of KAS Main exam, are provisionally admitted to the exam.
- At the time of submission of the application form for the Main exam, candidates also have to submit a copy of the final professional medical exam certificate from the institution/ University they have passed.
- Lastly, candidates also have to submit an original degree certificate from a recognized University or Institute at the time of Interview stating that the Candidates have completed all the requirements including the internship.
Number of Attempts in KPSC KAS Exam
- The General category candidates can appear a maximum 5 times in the Gazetted Probation.
- The OBC aspirants will get two extra chances to appear for the exam that is total 7 times.
- Lastly, the SC/ST/Cat-1 aspirants will get unlimited times to attempts the KPSC KAS exam, provided they are belonging from the particular and eligible age group.

If any Candidates found misconduct, the Commission has the full right to:
- Suspend the Candidates for a specific period for selection or admission.
- Discharge the Candidates permanently from appearing any State Civil services.
- Candidates will disqualify from the exam.
